Patient Localization: Understanding Patient Localization and Shifts - Varian Eclipse Treatment Planning System
This training presentation describes the patient localization process and isocenter shifts. The presentation (14 slides) describes setting of initial localization points (i.e., CT scanner), shifts performed during the virtual simulation (i.e., Eclipse treatment planning system), and any post simulation shifts (e.g., treatment machine). Slides describe marking of the initial patient localization points, initial CT imaging, initial setting of isocenter in the Eclipse (i.e., SomaVision), shifts using a motorized laser system (e.g., LAP lasers) to a new Eclipse isocenter, marking of final treatment localization points, and any subsequent post simulation shifts (e.g., field reduction) on the treatment machine. Examples of various screen shots include: patient CT reference markers, the coordinate system configuration (x, y, and z), shifts to isocenter from the dicom user origin in Eclipse, Eclipse treatment planning report and printout with isocenter coordinates, and Varian linac mechanical couch shifts. A short quiz with shift questions and answers is included. The presentation file size is 14 slides. Presentation formatting uses Microsoft PowerPoint (ppt).

Radiation Safety Training: Housekeeping
This training material is designed to instruct housekeeping personnel in fundamental radiation safety precautions for a typical radiation oncology center that utilizes diagnostic imaging (radiography, fluoroscopy, or CT simulator), therapeutic machine produced radiation (linear accelerator), and radioactive material (HDR remote afterloading device or PET). The brief training program (6 pages) covers the following: what is radiation, what are sources of radiation, radiation protection methods, restricted areas, specific instructions, and sign-off sheet. The document file size is 6 pages. Document formatting uses Microsoft Word (doc).

Radiation Safety Training: Nontechnical Personnel
This training presentation describes basic radiation safety principles and precautions applicable to a typical radiation oncology center for nontechnical personnel who work in a restricted area and require personnel monitoring devices. The presentation (44 slides) is designed to meet the following learning objectives: identify natural background and manufactured sources of radiation, how radiation affects living things, how radiation behaves, how to minimize radiation exposure, typical CT doses, what comprises a good program, and regulators expectations. The presentation file size is 44 slides. Presentation formatting uses Microsoft PowerPoint (ppt).
